Someone to watch over me coda Relisys Prince relisys.prince@virgin.net Summary Seven analysizes her research Notes:dedicated to my freind Kes or Claire as non trekers know her for being a shoulder to cry on, a fellow lunatic to laugh with and a friend through everything. Seven gathered up the last of her datapads putting them to one side. She had finished reading them over gaining conclusion from her research. A emoition appeared inside of her which she quickly indentified as envy. Emoitions are irrelevent she told hereself sternly. Studying a realationship had proven to her emoitional ties of this sort where self destructive and didn't have any obvious benifit, so she therefore had no use for them. Still...studying Lt Torres and Ensign Paris's relationship had given her a insight into what these relationships meant to those involved. It seemed that to rely on another was considered desirable. She failed to see why this was. She contiued to do research into romance reading books in which the characters had romantic involvements and running holodeck progams on the subject. Still she did not understand it. She had asked some crew members and some seemed embarassed about the subject or told storys of people who they had loved that left them. The Doctor had retold his romance with a Vidian doctor more than once. She had listened to crew members talking and concluded those who didn't have romantic relationships envyed those who had and those who had wanted different relationships. It confused her. This was part of the reason she had chosen to research Torres and Paris's involvment because it didn't fit the pattern. They didn't behave like the holodeck characters did when in love. They argued, disagreed, fought constantly but seemed to have a better and more lasting relationship than the other couples she had studied. The only conclusion she had was that romance was a major part of human mating rituals yet seemed almost pointless. She decided to ask Lt.Torres about the point of romance. "Lt Torres may I speak with you a moment?" What did she want now? B'Elanna turned to face Seven "Make it quick I've got a lot to do." Seven nodded "What is the point of romance?" B'Elanna hadn't expected this "Huh?" Seven calmly started to repeat herself "What is the poi.." B'Elanna interupted "I heard you before. Why do you want to know about romance?" Seven replied "It appears to be the most complicated part of mating rituals and I do not understand it." B'Elanna took a deep breath "I don't really think you can explain love or romance." Seven looked suprised "Everything can be explained. Explain why you have feelings for Ensign Paris." B'Elanna attempted to answer "I don't know. He cares about me. He puts up with my temper." Seven interupted her "You could say the same about many people on the ship." B'Elanna was beginning to feel frustrated "You can't explain why two people have a connection. Its just something that happens." Seven looked confused "How can you tell if you love somone?" B'Elanna sighed "You want to be with them, you enjoy their company, you put their needs before your own and you care about their opinion of you." Seven frowned "That sounds very similar to friendship." B'Elanna nodded "Their is a very fine line between love and friendship." Seven considered this "So in order to love someone you must first become their friend. Is this why my date did not work out? Because we lacked friendship?" B'Elanna held up a hand to stop her "No! Thats not what I'm saying" Seven looked suprised "Then you are saying it is best not to have friendship?" B'Elanna looked annoyed "NO! It can work either way. Thats what I'm saying. Seven nodded slowly "I must go now. I will consider your points" With this she rose and left, leaving B'Elanna alone. She stared after the Borg for a moment before shaking her head in amazment Later she entered Toms quaters to find him asleep on his couch "Hey wake up!" she said shaking him "Wha...Oh Be its you." She smiled slightly "I just had an intereseting talk with Seven." Tom looked suprised "Really? About what?" B'Elanna's smile grew into a grin "Love and romance." Tom laughed "Seriously? What did you say?" She sat down "That I didn't really understand love. That we don't choose who we love. Because I would never have chosen you." He put on a hurt expression and she smiled, hitting him on the arm "No I didn't mean it. And I probably wouldn't have chosen you but I'm glad I feel in love with you." He smiled back at her and leaned over to kiss her "I'm glad you did to." The End
