Writing is not magic, nor is it alchemy, nor an innate ability possessed by only a select few. I do not believe in such concepts. Writing is a craft-a craft that can be learned and improved upon with dedication and work. In my experience at UCLA Extension, I have seen dedicated people learn and enter into successful careers in the entertainment industry. I believe that many others, if they are willing to put in the hours, can also do this. UCLA Extension students are interesting people who have had rich lives and careers full of experience before coming to the Writers' Program. Their stories are worth telling.
