She summoned the energy to remove her boots but that was it. The stress of the previous two days had taken its toll. Disappearing away teams werenÕt commonplace even in the Delta Quadrant and since one of the missing had been Tom her sense of crisis had been heightened exponentially. Yet with a little ingenuity the crew managed to return Tom, Tuvok and the doctor safely home. ÒAnd now I can get some rest,Ó said BÕElanna, knowing Tom would be occupied first with a physical exam then a debriefing by the Captain. She would put the doctor himself would through a full diagnostic in morning. Her last thought before drifting into sleep was that at least on this week, she herself would be spared such hassles. The familiar sound of a transporter started BÕElanna awake. She bolted upright in bed and was soon relieved to see a familiar figure holding a huge bouquet of flowers.ÒBÕElannaÓ said a voice.ÒCanÕt you use the chime? You startled me,Ó she said without being able to sound as irritated as she thought she was.ÒI was afraid you wouldnÕt answer,Ó said Tom as he tossed the flowers aside and rushed forward to embrace her. She eagerly threw her arms around him, but as his lips found hers she was taken aback by the urgency of the kiss. ÒTom,Ó she whispered, still foggy with sleep. ÒI missed you so much,Ó he said between kisses.ÒI missed you, too,Ó she replied with a giggle trying to pull back a bit. Tom took the genuine gesture as Klingon encouragement and pinned BÕElannaÕs arms on either side of her. He climbed on top of her and brushed his lips against her cheek. She shivered in anticipation, but he made her wait. Seconds seeming to last for hours before he sank his teeth into her cheek.Way past the need to question his fervor, she growled with joy and gave herself completely to the moment.Hours later the couple remained in bed and dined happily on a replicated pizza. Tom ate much more voraciously than BÕElanna, who didnÕt like it as greasy as he had specified. ÒCareful, youÕre going to make yourself sick,Ó she said.ÒHey, I dreamed about pizza for the last four months almost as much as a I dreamed about you,Ó he said with his mouth full.ÒFour months? You were only gone two days. . .Ó As she said the words, the implication of the temporal distortion belatedly sunk in. ÒBut for you, it was four months?ÓÒYeah,Ó he said simply, the hardship endured apparent only in his expression.Absently, BÕElanna brushed her hand against her wounded cheek before placing her hand over his lips. He grabbed it and kissed it. Empathy had never been her strong suit, but she knew he needed her to understand. ÒI-IÕm glad you missed me,Ó she said, ÒAnd IÕm glad it didnÕt feel like months for me because I would have gone insane missing you.Ó From the intensity in her voice, he knew she meant that and it comforted him. ÒHow are Tuvok and the doctor?Ó she asked.Tom swallowed and shook his head.ÒThe doctor was kept off line most of the time, heÕs fine. As for TuvokÉwell, heÕs a Vulcan and will no doubt act like one.ÓÒMeaning?Ó BÕElanna had a sense they were no longer talking about physical hardships. ÒYou know the girl, Noss, that beamed up with us?ÓBÕElanna nodded. ÒI was aware someone was beamed up with the away team.Ó If BÕElanna was aware at how young and attractive that someone was, she did not show it.ÒShe fell in love with him. And, as much a Vulcans are capable, I think he fell in love back.ÓShe said nothing, but he read skepticism in her face. ÒIt didnÕt happen overnight . . .in fact, it was rather. . . fascinating to watch.ÓBÕElanna grinned with mischief. VoyagerÕs gossip mill had not produced something this juicy since the encounter with the Devore.Ó She grabbed another slice of pizza.ÒDo you really think he loved her? I mean, like real love.Ó Their eyes locked ÒYou mean, like I love you?ÓÒUh-huh. Like that,Ó she said blushing a little but still steady in her gaze. She was unaccustomed to hearing him say it aloud. ÒDifficult to say,Ó he responded before kissing her quickly, ÒAfter all, VulcanÕs have emotions. They just suppress them.ÓBÕElanna giggled. ÒThis is HUGE. . . did anything happen?ÓTom only shook his head and looked very sullen.ÒSorry, I got carried away. . .I guess it wasnÕt so amusing if you were there.ÓÒNo. Not for him and especially not for her. SheÕs incapable of understand why he rejected her. . .and you know what, given the circumstances neither did I.ÓTom stood up and walked to the window. BÕElanna sighed and let him brood at the unfamiliar stars for a moment before joining him. She reached around his waist and placed her head on his shoulder.ÒHe loves his wife, too and he is a man of honor. I think you understand that more than youÕd care to admit.ÓÒThanks.ÓÒSo where is she now? Is she still aboard?Ó ÒAs of six hours ago she was. . and I have to get some sleep. Real sleep.Ó With that he gathered his uniform from the floor and got dressed.ÒSame here. So IÕll see you later?ÓÒTomorrow. I checked your schedule and took the liberty of scheduling us into Holodeck two.ÓBÕElanna raised an eyebrow at the presumption. ÒCaptain Proton, I assume?ÓÒNo, water skiing in Tahiti. See you then.ÓÒIÕll be there. And in the meantime, see if you can find out anymore information about Tuvok and Noss, I promise to keep it quiet.ÓÒYou are incorrigible,Ó he said as he kissed her goodbye, Òbut I promise to do my best.ÓAs he left, she called after him.ÒTom, Ò she said softly ÒI really did miss you when you were gone.ÓÒI know,Ó he said. The End.
