BEYOND THE PROMISEBy Betty Phipps (Aries4116@aol.com)It is funny how reading stories causes ones mind to wonder and think. Well..mine has been doing just that. For some reason I feel like something is incomplete. "I Promise To.." lead to "The Promise Continues." I thought I had it all out of my system...but I didn't. The more I got to thinking about it, the more it started bugging me. So in the middle of working on a few other stories, this thought crossed my mind and refused to go away. So once again, I find myself sitting in front of my computer, looking at my favorite pig and laughing.DISCLAIMER: This is starting to become a standard thing these days. You all know by now what Paramount owns. Therefore we give credit to Paramount. But as for me, the writer, I own the name of Talyore and the story idea.Debra Ashe owns the character likeness of Lt. Debra Asheland. Including the psychotic obsession with the hypospray. (If Deb had one in real life, Robbie would be in trouble!)The field of stars remained a constant in this ever changing journey home. Home was in the Alpha Quadrant some 70,000 light years away. Too far to imagine, too far to care. Tom Paris had never really put too much thought into ever getting back. He didn't have much to go back to. His father couldn't care less what happened to him. That was okay because he had found a place where people did care about him. And it was on a ship 70,0000 light years away in the Delta Quadrant. The stirring next to him made him turn his attention to B'Elanna, his wife. He held the pillow still while she punched it and scrunched it up. She hated to sleep on her sides and her back. She was a stomach sleeper. A slight grin appeared across his face. "What is so funny?" A gruff voice mumbled. "You. Do you know you have spent the last hour tossing and turning and beating that pillow to death?" Raising up on her elbow, B'Elanna gave him a look that told him he was going to regret that question. "Would you rather I beat you to death then?" "Ouch." "Ouch is right, Helmboy." She said turning over to her back. "Besides, it is your fault that I can't sleep on my stomach." "I don't remember hearing you complain..." "Okay...point taken." She interrupted him. "I'm not sure if I'm ready for this." Tom placed his hand on her ever swollen stomach. Beneath his hand, was the new life they created together. "I know what you mean. I don't want to be like my father with our child." Tom said quietly. "I want to be there for him or her and for you. I'm so afraid I will screw this up." B'Elanna placed her hand over his that rested on her stomach. "Somehow I don't think our child will suffer the way we did. We knew the mistakes that were made with us, and we won't do the same with our child." She said softly. "Now only if I will have this baby, I will be much happier." "You don't have too much longer. The Doctor said in a couple of weeks." "I'm going crazy just sitting around doing nothing. I need to be in Engineering." "I can see this. You are in engineering, something happens in a jefferies tube and you get stuck..." Tom laughed. "Joe Carey calls me from engineering telling me that your stuck in a jefferies tube. The Captain shakes her head and Chakotay laughs. Tuvok has no comment and Harry is raking in the winnings from bets being placed." "You have too much time on your mind." She said with a grin. "Besides, I know I wouldn't fit in a jefferies tube!" "Just one little trip to Engineering?" "No. You are to be taking it easy. Or weren't you listening to the Doctor?" Tom reminded her gently. B'Elanna had pouting down to a science. Tom turned over on his side and laid his head next to hers on the pillow. "I've always dreamed of this, you and me and a child. A child who would have my good looks and yours too. Have my ability to fly and your temperamental side to keep people on their toes." Tom said drawing imaginary pictures on her stomach. "Temperamental side?" She questioned. "More like my engineering talents and your good looks. Don't want to give the kid too much to live up to." "You are in a feisty mood, aren't you?" He laughed kissing her ear. "Restless is more like it." She sighed. "I really feel like running a Klingon martial arts program now." Tom buried is face into the pillow. She still managed to throw him a curve every now and then. "I can't believe it has been two years since we got married." She said with a smile. "It doesn't seem that long." "It doesn't." Tom replied lifting his face off of the pillow. "Let alone having a child." "Speaking of the child, what are we going to name it?" B'Elanna asked grabbing a data padd from the stand next to the bed. "You said Elvis was out of the question if it was a boy." He laughed. "Pipi was to sissy sounding." "Your so delusional sometimes. I'm amazed you know how to fly a straight path." "Where did we leave off? Wasn't it, Myia for a girl and Morgan for a boy?" He said looking at the padd in her hands. "We could call it "Kid". She said in a serious voice. "That way we won't have to go over the list for the millionth time." "We call it "kid" and I'm sure we will not hear the end of it." He said stifling a laugh. B'Elanna began to laugh with him. Being silly was fun. They laughed themselves to sleep. "Have you decided on a name yet?" Harry asked Tom as they stepped onto the bridge the next morning. Tom shook his head. "Are you kidding?" He laughed. "B'Elanna and I have been up all night talking about it. We can't decide." He said sitting down at the helm. "Still working on a name?" Kathryn Janeway asked with a sly smile. She knew it was a hot topic on the bridge. "I have a few suggestions." Chakotay chimed in. "I'm sure B'Elanna will like them." Tom swung around too look at them. "We have a data padd full of names. We have been over them so many times, I'm starting to lose count. Why is it so hard to pick out a name? It's not like there aren't any to choose from." "Sounds like Mr. Paris is a little cranky." Janeway grinned, nudging Chakotay. "You might be right." He added with a wink in Janeway's direction. "Maybe he needs a nap?" Harry called out from Ops. "I just love the....help you guys are giving me." Tom smiled, turning back to the helm.B'Elanna had gotten out of bed after Tom left for duty. She made the bed and picked up his shorts that he left on the chair. She grabbed the towels from his shower and tossed them into the processor along with his shorts. She gave him credit for leaving things where she could get them. Bending down was not a easy task at the moment. She had dressed in a blue loose fitting shirt and a pair of black pants and a pair of socks. Tom was nice enough to put the socks on her feet before he left. She waddled into the living room with a small bin of odds and ends and plopped down on the couch. It was the only way to get down these days. She placed her hands on her stomach to feel the movement inside. A smile pulled at the corner of her mouth. This was the happiest time of her life. "I swear you are going to be like your father." She said to her stomach. "Always doing something, even when he is asleep." Reaching into the bin, she pulled out a large sized book and opened it. Her hands ran over the smooth surface as her eyes read over the contents of the page. The feel of the page was like a old friend. A comforting thought when one was needed. The pages were all the same color...blue. A heavenly blue that reminded her of the color of Tom's eyes. The same blue eyes that she never grew tired of looking into. Tom didn't understand why she liked to stare into his eyes. He would laugh and ask her, "What do you see?" Every answer was the same from her, "The person who I want to spend the rest of my life with." She flipped through the pages, glancing at the previous work done to them. Not wanting to change anything because it would change the emotion that was put into it. Emotion that was afraid to be shown. That had changed when Tom came crashing into her life. He began pulling emotions out of her, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Before she knew it, he had exposed emotions long buried deep inside of her. He brought them to the surface and made her take a long look at what she was capable of feeling. It was a sudden fear that made her jump up and run into the bedroom. She felt a wave of panic fall over her as she threw the pillows on the floor. Yanking down the sheets to the end of the bed, not finding what she was looking for. She slowly knelt down to the floor to look under the bed. The panic began to consume her quickly. She slowly got back up and began to pace around the room, thinking out loud, "It has to be here! It just has to be!" Tears began to form in her eyes and she frantically searched her memory. But her memory wasn't helping her at the moment. It was important that she find his teddy bear. It was part of her gift to him for their second anniversary. The bear was one thing that ment the world to Tom and to her. It was a sentimental bond that most wouldn't understand. B'Elanna was going to find that bear, even if it ment scanning every inch of the quarters."What are you and B'Elanna doing tonight?" Janeway asked Tom. Swinging around in his seat, Tom smiled. "Just a quiet night at home. B'Elanna is restless and she makes me restless and we are both restless." "How many times has B'Elanna asked to go down to Engineering?" Janeway grinned, knowing the answer. "Um...as of last night...." Tom tilted his head in thought. "Since she was relieved of duty a few weeks ago....One thousand and nine times. Not counting the times I have tuned her out. I've discovered it is not wise to argue with her when she wants to do something." "What happened last time?" Chakotay feigned no prior knowledge of the last argument they had. He saw Tom give him a evil look and he smiled. "Was that the time she kicked you out of bed, giving you a concussion?" Harry chimed in innocently. "I thought it was the time she threatened to cut your......" "Or was it the Leola root incident that got you tossed into Neelix's kitchen for a week?" Janeway interrupted Chakotay before he could finish his sentence. She didn't want to embarrass Tom too much. "No secrets on a ship this small." Tom rolled his eyes towards the ceiling. "Let alone when a certain half Human/Klingon gets angry." He turned back to the helm stifling a laugh. He would have it no other way. Tom walked through the corridors to have lunch with B'Elanna. They always had lunch with each other. Harry would have lunch with B'Elanna filling her in on the activities in Engineering. Getting reports were not as good as hearing it from a real live person. Tom knew what was going on and said nothing about it. He found it funny. Keying in his code, the door opened to the living area and soft sounds could be heard from within. "B'Elanna?" Tom called out making his way towards the bedroom. He walked in and found B'Elanna sitting on the floor against the bed crying. He rushed to her side, knelt down before her, and began looking for signs of labor. "Bella what's wrong? Is it the baby?" His voice carried his fears to her ears."The baby is fine. It's me that is not fine." She said hiccuping. Tom gently wiped the tears from her face and helped her to the bed. Sitting down beside her, he pulled her head to his shoulder and wrapped his arms around her. "Want to tell me why your upset?" "I'm just stupid. That's all." She said unable to control the tears that fell. "Your not stupid. Where did that come from?" He asked pulling her face away from his shoulder. "I lost something. I've looked everywhere and I can't find it." "What did you lose?" "Teddy Bear." Tom wanted to laugh, but decided against it. Sickbay was getting to be old hat. He softly kissed her on the forehead and hugged her. "Bella...don't be upset. Teddy gets lost from time to time. He turns up in the most unlikely places. Besides, he is always found." "But it is part of my gift to you for our second anniversary." She sighed happily. Being held by him was like a form on heaven. "So will Teddy get to watch this time?" He asked with a smug look on his face. "Why? So he can procreate?" "He might not want to now." B'Elanna gave him a funny look. "Stuffed animals do not procreate." "Can I see my gift or do I have to wait?" Tom smiled like a little boy. B'Elanna stood up and took his hand and they sat down on the couch. He helped her as she sat down next to him. She looked so radiant. "I was going to give this to you tonight, but I seemed to have messed that up." She said holding the scrapbook in her hands. "You did not mess anything up. Some things are worth giving early." Tom smiled at her and she melted. "I have been working on this for a long time." B'Elanna said looking down at the book in her hands. "I didn't start working on it until after the Pon far incident. It wasn't until then that I realized, that...I...had strong feelings for you. As the time went by, I grew to love you more and more. I wanted to save those moments that ment something to me. Even if it was a feeling, or a flower, I wanted to show you how much you mean to me." Tom hugged her tightly and she handed him the book. Tom took the book and noticed what was etched on the front of the cover. Things to RememberHe ran his fingers over the etched lettering. It reminded him of B'Elanna...smooth, yet rough. Bold, yet, quiet. Strong, yet weak. He cast a smile at her. "It is beautiful Bella." He said opening the book to read the inside cover. Written in blue ink, was B'Elanna's hand writing. The dedication read..... THOMAS EUGENE PARIS The name I came to understand with time and love in time. The one person who made me look deep down inside of myself and see the things that I never thought I was capable of. The one I would one day have for my own, heart and soul. Love Always, B'Elanna (Torres) ParisHe looked up to see her smile at him. "So you are a romantic?" She only shrugged her shoulders. Not telling him one way or another. She still liked to keep him guessing. Flipping through the pages, feeling the memories B'Elanna had saved, his heart filled with pride and joy. The first rose he gave her was neatly pressed onto the page. The blood red color was as deep as the first time he gave it to her, as was the green stem. The blue page reminded him....of his eyes. He turned to the next page to find a fork. "A fork?" He questioned. "Remember? The first time you fed me dinner." She said. "Our first real date with out interruptions." Tom laughed at the memory. They had lasagna for dinner and a strawberry pie for desert. They sat side by side on the floor feeding each other from one plate, and laughing at how bad each was at such a simple task. The food ended up mostly in their laps. The strawberry pie was much easier to handle. They ate that with their hands. "Yeah...I do. The strawberry filling was good on your lips." B'Elanna smiled at the memory, not to mention the feeling. He flipped through some of the pages, glancing at the momentous that were adhered to the page. Some he was going have to ask her about. There were a few there he did not remember. His fingers traced a piece of fabric and he looked up to her. "Evidence of our pillow fight. The one where you lost big time." She giggled. "The swing that defeated you." "Oh..I remember." He brightened up. "I think you cheated." "I didn't cheat." "I believe you bit me. That distracted me from swinging back, so you could deliver the final blow." "I don't remember hearing you complain after that." She grinned wickedly. "I wasn't complaining at all. It was the first time we made love." Tom turned to the next page and saw a medical report plastered there. B'Elanna began to laugh harder. She loved his reaction. "You just had to put that in there, didn't you?" He laughed with her. "Keeping track of all of my wounds aren't you?" "I thought it was some of my best work. I mean, even the doctor, had been keeping track of the varying degrees of bite marks." "I always knew I was a work of art." He threw in. "But the black and blue marks never did go well with my skin tone." The next two pages were handwritten with white ink on blue pages. He began reading the pages. Everything has gone wrong. I don't understand how something so good could go so wrong so fast. I'm not sure how to fix this broken feeling in my heart. Maybe I did overreact to Tom's rotectiveness of me. He loves me, I know. But I can take care of myself. I have for a long time. Maybe I am afraid to let someone care for me. The people I thought cared for me, were never there when I needed them. Tom has been there, standing beside me, proud to be beside me. Now he is lost on some world, missing. I was mad at him, not mad enough to want him to vanish from my life forever. Everything is lying around me broken and I'm filled with regret. I want another chance to begin again. Suddenly I'm alone and I don't want to be alone. After listening to Tom's favorite kind of music, he called it Pop Rock, I find myself feeling something I have never felt before. I am in no way a writer or a poet. THE ONE I WANT I sit alone and watch the night go by Where did it all go wrong? I sit alone and I wonder why Why I'm writing this sad song You are the one that I love You are the one I'm thinking of Your with me day and night Tell me what can I do to make it right Your touch haunts me Through this long lonely night How could I ever forget The way you hold me, it feels so right Time will never take you (I'll never let go) You belong to me and that's all that counts I'll never leave you, hear me out You are the one I love (one I love) You are the one I think of (I'm thinking of) Your with me day and night (Day and night) Only you can make it right. After reading the pages he said, "Our first fight. I figured you needed some space. I was overbearing when it came to you." "I didn't know how to just tell you. I got angry and shouldn't have blown up at you." She said placing her hand across his. "Then you went on that away mission and......I thought I had lost you forever." "Just for a few days." He smiled. "Gave me time to see where I went wrong." "We both were not communicating." "But we did talk about. Shared what was bugging us." He smiled big for her. "And we have always talked since." B'Elanna laid her head on his shoulder as he continued to go through the book. It was the only thing she could think of giving him. She was already going to give him a child. Twins might be fun. "Taylore." Tom said as his eyes locked on her picture. He could clearly remember her smile and her voice. He would always remember her for what she did for them. How he wanted to return the favor to her. "Are you okay Tom?" B'Elanna said seeing his eyes fill with tears. He quickly looked up at her. "You'd think I was the one having a baby." He joked, trying to hide his tears. "You can't lie to me Thomas." She said in a authoritative tone of voice. "I know you too well." "People have sacrificed so much for me. Taylore never knew me and she gave up a existence for me...for us." He said with raw emotion. "Sometimes I feel I take more than I give." "That's not true and you know it." She stated firmly. "I have seen you give and give and never ask for anything in return. You have given me so much, each day I try to give something back to you. I didn't put that picture in there to make you feel bad. I put that in there because she gave us a second chance to be together. A chance I was not willing to take." "Now who is trying to hide the tears?" Tom said wiping one from her cheek. "Taylore gave us something she never got to give. She knew we were going to make it." "Tom, if this baby is a girl, how about Taylore?" She said searching his face for an answer. "Taylore....it has a ring to it." He grinned. "What if it is a boy?" "Homer." She replied seriously. Tom busted out laughing. "Homer?!" He gasped between laughs. "And you think Elvis is bad?" "Just a thought." She laughed with him. The ship suddenly lurched forward and Tom held onto B'Elanna so she would fly off the couch. The sound of the alarm filled the room and Tom got up. "You stay put. No trips to engineering." He leaned down and kissed her. "I'm going have to teach Chakotay how to really fly sometime." "Becareful hotshot. I'm not going to have this baby alone." She yelled to him. He replied, "Yes ma'am." And quickly left.Tom stumbled onto the bridge and made his way to the helm. Everyone was rolling with the ship and holding onto the counsels and chairs. "We are caught in a distortion wave." Harry yelled out. "Origin?" Janeway said bouncing in her chair. "2.6 light years in a binary star system. Looks like the sun went supernova." Harry said. Tom was about to stand up due to having his knees being slammed into the helm panels over and over. If he wanted to be bruised, he would let B'Elanna have the honor of bruising him. The ship stopped rolling and B'Elanna walked over to the desk and sat down. She punched up the ships status and found engineering to be on top of things. She read through the sensor readings and found evidence of a distortion wave. It had caused the ship to roll and her to bounce like a bowl full of Jell-O. She read through the readings again, satisfied, she sat back in the chair. She missed the action of engineering very much. The keeping the ship together during a crisis that would tear it apart, or the power grid going down during a maintenance check, she really wanted to solve the simple problems that can happen. But she realized that soon she would have other challenges to worry about. A smile broke out on her face. A picture of Tom in the early morning hours with the baby, would be shown all over the ship. Just as long as it is him and not her. The door chimes announced a visitor. "Enter." B'Elanna replied struggling to get up. The door opened to reveal Lt. Debra Asheland. She had become a nurse for Dr. Marcus Welby over the years and was in charge of checking up on patients. "B'Elanna, you didn't have to get up." She said as B'Elanna walked into the living room. "I did." She replied stretching her back. "I will be glad when I have this baby. Any way we can get Tom to have it?" "I'm sure we could arrange a transporter accident." Debra laughed wickedly. "And with a few medical operations, Tom would be ready to give birth." They gave each other a encouraging look and then began laughing. "I'm surprised Dr. Welby didn't come and see me himself." B'Elanna said sitting down in the chair with Debra's help. "Well.....even a holo family can be time consuming." Debra smiled pulling up a chair and sitting down. "How are you feeling?" "Like a warp core about to breech." She grumbled. "Am I gonna get any bigger before I give birth?" "Nope. Unless your going to have twins." Debra joked. "Which you are not." "I wonder." B'Elanna said. "Want to know if it is a boy or a girl?" Debra baited with a smile. "No!! I don't want to know!" B'Elanna laughed and tossed a small pillow at the Lt. "Tom and I agreed that we will wait until the baby is born. Temptation will get you no where." "Not even a trip to engineering?" Debra raised her eyebrows. B'Elanna was tempted she noted. "I promised Tom I wouldn't go down to engineering. Not like I'm tempted or anything." "What about that second bowl of Aldainian spice pudding the other day?" Debra hid a laugh. "I gave into temptation that time. Besides, Tom had seconds also." "I see." Debra smiled. "Tom is helping you eat for two." "You think he was actually having this baby." B'Elanna smiled. Debra smiled a sweet smile, "You and Tom are going to be great parents. Don't worry so much. It will come naturally to you two." "What happened between you and Joe Carey?" "We went our separate ways." Debra said quietly. "It was a mutual parting. We are still good friends." "I'm sorry it didn't work out." B'Elanna said picking at the pillow. "Well.....then again....." "Then again what?!" B'Elanna sat up straight. News. She loved to hear this kind of stuff. "Ensign Michael Murphy has become victim to Mr. Hypospray." Debra replied with a smug look. "Your bad." B'Elanna said. "Truly twisted." "I've been told that. Ensign Murphy told me that also...and well........" "He succumbed to your touch." B'Elanna said laughing. "Yes...we are dating seriously." Debra said with a beaming smile. B'Elanna giggled with Debra. It was fun to talk about other stuff than warp engines. Debra did her part in keeping B'Elanna informed on the various activities between people on the ship. "I've got a few reports to finish in sickbay." Debra said getting up. "I'll drop by tomorrow to check up on you." "I'm not going anywhere." B'Elanna said too enthusiastically. "Maybe I will bring Michael by. I'm sure you could get him to talk." "I look forward to it." B'Elanna said as Debra left.Tom was sitting up in bed and B'Elanna was snuggled against his side. They were looking through the scrapbook, laughing and remembering the moments. She loved to hear him laugh at the moments that he would rather forget. "You saved my shredded underwear?" "You dared me to take them off." B'Elanna replied turning the page. "Purple was never your color." "But the stripes were?" He smiled down at her. She gave him the best innocent look she could muster up. His fingers brushed the pages as his eyes traveled over the stuff there. "Ah....the medical report on your pregnancy." "The one the doctor got a kick out of writing up." B'Elanna giggled. "Especially when you threw up on him." "I warned him...and he didn't listen." She stated as a matter of fact. "I'm sure next time he will." Tom said and just then, he heard B'Elanna inhale quickly. "Contraction?" A pair of brown eyes locked with blue ones and nodded. "They have been off and on all day. This one was a little more sharper." "And you didn't tell me?" Tom asked grabbing a tricorder. "It wasn't that bad Tom. It will be a while before the contractions become more pronounced." "Now I'm not going to sleep." Tom said running his hand over her tummy. B'Elanna grinned and pulled him down for a kiss. "Easy helmboy. The time will come soon enough." Tom snuggled down beside her and sighed. B'Elanna laid her head on his chest and smiled. They both were scared to death.Lt. Debra Asheland was doing inventory on medical supplies when Tom and B'Elanna came in. It was late afternoon and sickbay was empty. "Tom...B'Elanna...is it the baby?" She said rushing over to them. "Her contractions are 10 minutes apart." Tom said helping B'Elanna on a biobed. She was breathing with the contraction and cursing in Klingon. "Well B'Elanna, lets get you ready for your baby." Debra said getting a gown for her and calling Dr. Welby. Tom helped B'Elanna get into the gown and Debra adjusted the bed so she could sit up. B'Elanna was in pain, but didn't complain about it. Debra ran a medical tricorder over B'Elanna's stomach and Dr. Welby showed up. "Ahhh...so it is time for the baby." Dr. Welby said in Tom's direction. "The baby is in position and is moving toward the birth canal." Debra said handing the tricorder to the doctor. "Relax B'Elanna. Breathe deeply." His soft voice irritated her. Tom held onto her hands and started to breathe with her. Deep breaths. "Breathe Bella, breathe.." Tom encouraged. "I am breathing you pig!" B'Elanna spat out. Debra hid a smile. This was going to get interesting. The birth began to pick up pace and B'Elanna could feel the baby as it moved into the birth canal. Tom was beside her, holding her hands. He saw the contraction as it moved down her stomach, then the watery blood that expelled from her body. The room was starting to spin. Tom fought to hold on to his bearings. But it didn't work as he fell to the floor. Debra and Dr. Welby rushed to Tom's aid, while B'Elanna panted through another contraction. "Excuse me...uggghhh.....I'm having a baby here!" B'Elanna yelled. "Does anyone care?!" Debra grabbed a hypo and heard B'Elanna yell, "Your not giving that to me!" Smiling, Debra replied, "This is for Tom." Soon Tom began to come to. Debra helped him get up and Dr. Welby turned his attention to B'Elanna. "Okay B'Elanna..push!" Dr. Welby instructed. Then she heard Tom echo the same thing. "Push Bella. I'm here with you, I will help you out." Tom said a little more focused "But your not...uhhhh.....helping me...grrrr.....your just all talk." She panted and held on to Tom's hands. "Your doing fine B'Elanna." Debra said. "Almost there." B'Elanna closed her eyes for a moment. The time had come. Tom was here. She didn't need anything else. "The baby is crowning!" Debra said excitedly. Dr. Welby took a look himself and nodded. "I want you to bear down and push." Dr. Welby said. "Now...push!" B'Elanna sat up and pushed with everything she had. "Harder Lt. Harder!" "Isn't that what I have been doing, you hologrhapic pain in the a...." She was cut off by another contraction that racked her body. Tom pulled Bella up and began to breathe with her. "One or two more pushes." Tom said after seeing the head. "You are almost done, almost done." "Your going to hyperventilate before I finish, Tom." "No need worry B'Elanna." Debra said indicating to the hypo spray on the bed. "I'm ready for anything." B'Elanna could feel the baby as it moved. It was strange to lose something that had lived for almost a year inside you. It became part of her. She didn't want to let it go. But she couldn't stop the natural process of giving birth. Tom had moved down to the other end of the bed. He wanted to be there when the baby emerged. Tom looked up to B'Elanna and smiled. She returned a smile and closed her eyes. She dug deep down into her being, her love for Tom and her love for the baby, and gave one last push. The baby slid from her body and into Tom's waiting hands. B'Elanna slumped back and sighed. Debra wiped the sweat off her forehead. "It's a girl!!!" Tom shouted. "We have a girl!" B'Elanna smiled as Tom held up the crying baby for her to see. Dr. Welby took the baby as Tom cut the umbilical cord. Debra took the baby and Dr. Welby began to record its weight, size and clean it up. Tom moved to her side and kissed her soundly. "You did a good job." "Your having the next one, hot shot!" She said after his lips left hers. The doctor came back with the baby who was now wrapped in a blanket, and handed her to B'Elanna. Eagerly she took the infant and cradled it in her arms. She unfolded the blanket and found a tiny hand. "She is perfect."B'Elanna said. "She has your nose." Tom picked up the tiny hand. It was so much smaller than his. "She has your grip." Tom laughed. The baby opened its eyes to look at the two people who were gazing down upon. A smile tugged across the tiny face and sighed. Dark little eyes took in the sight and sounds of mom and dad. "She will have your eyes Bella." "She will have your smile Tom." "She will have both of you." Debra replied. "I think we should warn the captain that this child will have Tom Paris charm and B'Elanna's engineering talents. Have you picked a name for her yet?" Tom and B'Elanna looked at each other. Tom nodded and B'Elanna said, "Yes we have picked a name for her."Not long after"Taylore Elizabeth Paris?! What are you doing?!" B'Elanna said looking at the mess in the living room. A small two year old with dark brown hair and brown eyes looked up at mom. "I was learning." The small voice said. "Daddy said okay." B'Elanna sighed. Daddy was going to be in trouble for this. She couldn't fault Taylore. B'Elanna knew the work of Tom Paris anywhere. There was something funny about a two year old covered in chocolate and marshmallows and graham crackers. B'Elanna watched as Taylore began to make a s'more. B'Elanna realized that Taylore was her fathers daughter. Taylore took after allot of Tom's habits, piloting was one of those traits. But she also had a temper. Taylore had very faint ridges across her forehead, you wouldn't have noticed them unless you were looking for them. Her brown eyes had the twinkle that Tom's had. "Bella, what are doing home?" Tom asked stepping out of the bedroom. "I thought you were in engineering." "I was, but I decided to come home early. I seem to have interrupted s'more time." "Don't worry...Bella..Taylore and I will clean it up." Tom smiled as Taylore shoved a s'more in his mouth. "Tom we are going have to talk." B'Elanna said sitting down infront of them. "Something wrong?" Tom asked. "I'm going to have a baby." She said. Tom looked at her and began to smile. "And this time, it will be a boy." B'Elanna said. "You have to resist temptation, Bella." Tom laughed. "Look what happened to Murphy, he fell in love with a hypospray psycho and is expecting triplets." "Now Tom, Debra and Michael are our friends." She said. "I don't think you want her to tag you with another hypo do you?" "A boy...are you sure?" "Well keep trying until we get one." B'Elanna grinned at Tom. "I like a challenge." Tom smiled. Taylore looked from mom to dad and wondered what was going on. They were laughing. She looked around to see what was so funny. There was nothing. She turned back to dad. "Daddy, where did I come from?" Tom and B'Elanna looked at Taylore. Tom sighed and Bella laughed. "Isn't she a little young for this talk?" Tom asked. "Well...you are the one with words of wisdom. I'm just a helper." B'Elanna said getting up and walking into the bedroom, hiding a evil smile. Tom would have to get her. "Me and mommy created you." "How many rations did you use?" Taylore questioned. Tom's jaw dropped and he began to laugh. "B'Elanna?! Are you sure your pregnant?! I hope we have enough rations for the baby." B'Elanna stuck her head out of the bedroom. "Rations?! What are you talking about?! What does a baby have to do with it?!"The End*The One That I Want*>>>>> Written by Betty Phipps.
